From small acorns, grow great oak trees: Hangman began life in a barn with a leaky roof in North Norfolk during the 1980s. It is now one of the leading and most respected set design and manufacturing companies in the world.
With our roots in rock ‘n’ roll, we have branched into everything from touring pop shows to corporate conferences to heavy rock stadium gigs and international film launches. Since it was founded by dynamic husband and wife team Chrissie and Alan Chesters, the company has produced some of the most startling and ambitious stages of the last couple of decades – for some of the biggest names.
The team at Hangman combines some of the hottest new creative talent in the country with years of experience and achievement.
Co-founder, Alan Chesters was named Live! Magazine’s ‘Set Designer of the Year’ in 1999 and became ‘Set Designer of the Year’ at the annual Total Productions Awards in February 2004.
In 2002 Hangman was joined by Sam Booker who set about bringing Hangman into the 21st century.
And in 2006 Metalman was born. In response to a growing demand for both basic tourable staging items and intricate custom metalwork we decided there was no-one better to meet our customers needs than us. Drawing on Hangman's innovation, design credentials and attention to detail we've now been building stages for more than a year in our newly built fabrication workshop.
Metalman has grown organically and now has its own production manager, Toby Mendes-Houlston as well as two full time welders - 'Roo' and Rachel. Alan and Sam are closely involved in all Metalman's projects which means that metalwork and scenic items can be developed hand in hand - hopefully meaning fewer headaches for you at rehersals!
